Taking the Kitten Home

Are you interested in taking care of cats? Or are your sons or daughter wanted to have one as a pet? Either way, getting a kitten would be the best choice. Adult cats can be unruly, so starting out with kittens and training them early will be the key. If you are want to know how to take care of them, and then here are some basic tips.

Picking up the Kitten

The first thing you would want to do with kittens is to hold them. The correct way to pick them up is to position one hand below the kitten’s chest, slightly behind its front legs. Your other hand should be under the rear so that you can bear the mass of the cat. Lift it up with both hands. Now hold the kitten in the crook of your arm. Make sure you grip firmly to prevent it from getting loose.

Basic Supplies

You will need some things to make sure you can take care of the cat. Some things you need for the kitten include: bed, water and food bowls, toys, cat carrier, litter box and litter, kitten food, a collar, scratch posts, brushes and combs. You can buy this stuff on a pet store; just make sure all of these items are safe for kittens.

Homesickness

As a kitten, it will often miss the comfort of being with its mom and siblings. The kitten’s home sickness is evident when it wakes up and starts to meow. When this happens, you can try picking up the kitten and speaking to it soothingly and stroke it gently. If that doesn’t work, you can try putting a ticking clock near its bed. This will remind it of its mother’s heartbeat. You can also put a hot-water bottle wrapped up in a towel near the kitten. The heat will remind it of its siblings.
